Masquerade – Elements of Disguise
This exhibition brings together ‘elements of disguise’ created by artists, costumiers, participants in the recent mask workshop and items from private collections.
Including works from Iona Matheson (local artist -fibre), Sean Hurst (fabricator for the film industry), Joyce Taylor (local artist-fabric), Ellen Kerssens (local artist -papier mache) and Sally Blyth (creativationist – also see ‘The Story of Masks’),
Also includes works from the mask workshop, created by creative people within the community . Margaret Russell, Ljubica Radonich “Ribana”, Stafford Flood, Ila Selwyn and Isaac Gilich. Revealing an alternative image…
Peter Van Rooyen is the President of the Manukau Volunteer Coastguard and also a master craftsman. We invited him to create a mask, cast in metal. This was sold in a Silent auction as part of the fundraiser for the new Coastguard Base in French Bay.
David Van Diepen – artist, carver… his element in this exhibition is wood.
We are also displaying collections from people with a passion for the beautiful and unique.
Inventive and original works on display … in materials ranging from mixed media, metal, wood, ceramics, fabric, feather, fibre and much more …
